De-extinction scientist, Bryan Clark, dies at 81

An award-winning city professor who studied evolution and dreamed of one day resurrecting extinct species has died aged 81.

Professor Bryan Clarke was a high-profile researcher at the University of Nottingham in genetics.

Among his work, which spanned four decades, was the co-founding of the Frozen Ark website which sought to preserve the DNA of endangered species with the idea that cloning technologies will be available in the future to resurrect them.

Clarke was credited with being instrumental in developing understanding of the process through which species form, with his work including a long-term study of snails in the South Pacific.
