Malicious harm to a devastated orange industry

“Are you ready for a tall glass of GMOs? If they move forward with GMO oranges, you need to know. Tell the Florida Legislature: Require GMO Labeling in Florida,” reads an image recently posted on the “GMO Free Florida” Facebook page.

I took the time to respond to this image. It ignited an exchange where I kindly offered information about the juice used in the industry and how I’d like to see them voluntarily take down the image. This type of rhetoric coupled to the fear campaign could dissuade consumers from drinking Florida orange juice.

The orange industry has been hammered by Citrus Greening, a disease threatening the supply of oranges within the decade; however, there are no GMO oranges in production.

But try telling that to the person running the GMO Free Florida website.
