Activist-scientists slam biotech under UN banner

According to a compendium of commentaries by well-known scientists and organic activists known for their fierce opposition to crop technology, the world needs to “wake up before it is too late” and move away from larger scale agriculture towards “mosaics of sustainable regenerative production system” that favor small-scale farmers and local food production. The commentaries, published under the banner of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD,) excludes any submissions from mainstream agricultural organizations or prominent crop scientists. Among those featured are well known activist scientists Jack Heinemann, Mae-Wan Ho, Miguel Altieri, Hans Herren and Oliver de Schutter, and representatives from anti-technology NGOs, including from Pesticide Action Network, Third World Network, GRAIN, International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM), and IFBL (a Swiss organic group).
