Blackberries are a popular, healthy fruit consumed by people all over the world. Over the last century, significant progress has been made in improving the genetics of these delicious berries. On this episode of Talking Biotech, University of Florida plant geneticist Kevin Folta dives into the history, breeding efforts and future of blackberry with USDA small fruit breeder Chad Finn.
Chad Finn is a plant geneticist and fruit breeder with the Agricultural Research Service of the USDA. His research includes genetic improvement and virus management of blackberry, red and black raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, grape, and winegrape crops.
