Talking Biotech: Prospects for approving GMO salmon and rescuing embattled banana

HOST OVERVIEW
Kevin Folta: University of Florida plant geneticist Kevin Folta launched Talking Biotech in 2015.    More details

Salmon is an outstanding food for protein, and undeniably great table fare. The AquaBounty company has produced the AquaAdvantage salmon, a fish that grows to production size in less time. This means the same amount of healthy fish using less food, labor, water, and other limited resources. Dave Conley speaks about the salmon, how the trait works, the regulatory hurdles it faces, and questions about safety and containment.

The second part of the podcast is a visit with Professor Pat Heslop-Harrison, addresses the origins of bananas, which are facing disease threats with a focus on how breeders and bio-technologists might help rescue this important but embattled fruit. Guest Host: Val Swenson.conleyheslopcoverphoto
