Optimize use of biotech in pest management

As biotechnology requires huge investment in terms of facilities as well as manpower, it was suggested that “Centre of Excellence” should be developed for working on transgenics, induced resistance, genetically engineered entomopathogens, molecular diagnostics for biotypes, DNA barcoding of important insect species and production of transgenic insects. Dr Singh told that the experts underlined the need for close interaction among entomologists, molecular biologists and biotechnologists as well as plant breeders to optimize the use of biotechnological approaches in pest management.
