Activists urge Kenya to pass law compensating farmers whose crops ‘contaminated by GMOs’

The government has been urged to create a law to compensate farmers whose farms might be contaminated with GMOs.

Kenya Organic Agriculture Network information and policy manager Wanjiru Kamau said as the as the debate on GMOs continues, there should be a . . . law to address the issues of compensation.

“The risk of pollination is real in our smallscale farming system. . . such . . . legislation could help in compensating a farmer whose farm is contaminated by GM maize from the neighbouring farm,” said Wanjiru.
