Whatโs a future without glyphosate look like?
How about a nearly $2.9 billion drop in net farm income, food inflation more than doubling, and an additional 33.72 million tons of carbon dioxideย emissions each year, for starters.
The grim details were spelled out in a new report from The Directions Group, which highlighted farm bill programs and the role of crop protection tools. It identifies the significant impacts on the farm bill and federal ag policy that would erupt if U.S. farmers lost access to glyphosate โ the nationโs most-used herbicide.
โConflicting state and federal pesticide labeling requirements could create a challenging regulatory landscape for crop protection products,โ saidย Mark Purdy, executive vice president of agri-food at The Directions Group. โThat’s why this research is critical. It shows that losing access to glyphosate could create far-reaching consequences for the farm bill.โ
