Why genetically modified corn in Pakistan?

Biotechnology, an evolution of traditional agricultural methods and the fastest adopted crop technology in history, is not new to Pakistan. Globally, adoption of biotech crops has been a success with proven socio-economic benefits; whereas Pakistan too has joined the club of top 10 countries having commercialised biotech crops albeit introduction of Bt cotton through informal channel. And now it is in the process of approving genetically modified (GM) or biotech corn for commercial cultivation.
