Opinion: The real point of GM food is corporate control of farming

Colin Tudge, co-founder of Campaign for Real Farming, writes in Ecologist magazine that corporate control of GM technology is choking small farmers and leading to a dangerous culture of monocrop cultivation.

The real point behind GMOs is to achieve corporate / big government control of all agriculture, the biggest by far of all human endeavours. And this agriculture will be geared not to general wellbeing but to the maximization of wealth.

As GMOs spread – and governments like Britain’s would love to follow the US lead in this – they could soon become the only options; the only kids on the block. Then all of agriculture, the key to human survival, will become the exclusive property of the few huge companies that hold the patents.
