David Holmes and Andrew Bean, two graduates from NYU, have created a hip hop music video called “OMG GMOs”, aimed at resolving the mix of technologies and traditions that can feed humanity with the fewest regrets.
These are the same two musical innovators that produced the controversial anti-fracking song and video back in 2011. Some have begun calling their interesting take on blending current news, music and science, “newsicals.”
However, unlike their anti-fracking video, Holmes and Bean aren’t supporting an anti-GM view. The two mention that GMOs may be part of the solution to the problem of world hunger and sustainability.
Not everyone is a fan of the newsical. Peter Raven, a well known environmentalist isn’t the song’s biggest supporter. Raven believes it falsely assumes that there is a debate about GM crops among mainstream scientists, when he believes there is not.
Either way, the video definitely adds spark to the ongoing controversy surrounding GMOs.
