Kyrgyzstan president objects to total ban of GMOs

President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazabek Atambayev has sent a letter of objection to a new bill making it illegal to farm, process, import or sell products containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.  The announcement was made by an official spokesperson to the president during a session of the  Parliament Committee for Social Policy, Akipress reports.

“The bill imposes a complete ban on GMO products. However, in light of our accession into the Customs Union, we must take into account the technical requirements of the union allowing for the use of products containing 0.9-percent GMO elements.
