GM labeling bills on docket in Massachusetts, Rhode Island

New England could once again be a hotbed of action for GMO labeling during this legislative session, with hopes particularly high for passage of a bill that would require the labeling of foods in at least two states. David Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps and a major funder of the labeling movement, told MA on the trade show floor at Natural Products Expo West that “this is a crucial year” for labeling and “we’re hoping that we’re going to see Massachusetts, Rhode Island and maybe one or two states go legislatively in the 2015 cycle.”

But Bronner was more reserved on whether pro-labeling groups will take another stab this year at voter ballot initiatives in California and Washington state. Labeling supporters “want to let the legislative session wrap up and see where we’re at — where we’re at with the lawsuit in Vermont,” he said. “Everyone’s coming at us, every state wants to go.” More on the bill in Massachusetts here: http://bit.ly/1KMP1Um and Rhode Island here: http://bit.ly/1CWIXo0
