“The role of the backyard beekeeper is extremely valuable,” said Serge Labesque, one of the North Bay’s most knowledgable beekeepers, who has taught many others, including Lance, how to make their hives thrive. “The most important role the small beekeeper can play is being steward of the local bee genetics, protecting the genetic diversity of the species as a whole.”
