In Hawaii, Big Island judge issues restraining order blocking new GMO law

The battle over so-called GMOs took another turn in a Hilo courtroom last Friday. At issue is a law that requires farmers of genetically modified crops to file specific information about their crops with Hawaii County.

An unnamed farmer filed a lawsuit claiming the new rule puts his crop at risk from vandals and conflicts with state and federal law. Judge Greg Nakamura issued a temporary restraining order until at least March 24. Supporters of the law were undeterred saying they will prevail in the end.
