In a position paper, [published August 23rd] the government said that EU GMO rules would continue to apply in the U.K. if it leaves the [European] bloc without a deal in March 2019 and that “there would be no significant implications for U.K. stakeholders.”
However, decisions on whether to grant new GM authorizations would take place in the U.K., rather than in Brussels, if negotiators fail to clinch a deal. The government promised that the “same risk assessment process will be applied” in Britain as in the EU in that event.
