New drug shows we must overcome taboos about stem-cell research

I’ll be the first to admit that stem-cell research, as we typically view it, troubles me in many ways. The entire principle of using viable embryos for medical research causes me to feel the pangs of worry and regret I get from reading dystopian science fiction. But one thing makes me considerably more uncomfortable than stem-cell research itself: the knowledge that failure to pursue it can and will destroy human life.
