Nigeria: President urged to sign Agricutlural Biotechnology Bill

The following is an excerpt.

Senator Bukola Saraki has urged President Goodluck Jonathan, to, as a matter of urgency, give his assent to the Agricultural Biotechnology Bill earlier passed by the two chambers of the National Assembly.

He made the call on Wednesday, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Advocacy, Mr Bankole Omishore.

Saraki, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District, emphasised the importance of the bill, given his background as a member of  Senate Committee on Agriculture, coupled with his vast experience in the sector as a former governor of Kwara State.

He said that it was imperative for the president to sign the bill into law, as part of the transformation agenda of the present administration.
By doing this, he said, it would compliment the Federal Government’s efforts toward ensuring food security and  sufficiency.
