Anti-GMO ‘zombie myths’: Influential enviro leaders such as Paul Ehrlich spread propaganda

In his latest blog post, Discover’s Keith Kloor addresses the spread of popular anti-GMO myths, such as the supposed rise in farmer suicides in India and Monsanto as the center of a a worldwide conspiracy to subvert the world food system— “zombie myths” kept alive by irresponsible environmental leaders.

Now you might say that the people who believe such things, that Monsanto is the embodiment of corporate evil and that GMOs have caused a genocide, are just a bunch of naive conspiracists. But there is a reason why these myths have gained traction and continue to build on themselves. And that is because influential voices, such as green leaders like [Paul Ehrlich and] Vandana Shiva, repeat these whoppers, often to credulous audiences.
