Glyphosate’s contributions to cutting greenhouse gas emissions

I get many emotive emails about the evils of glyphosate, many of them from sources who also send me anti-vax messages. My view is simple: I don’t believe glyphosate is highly carcinogenic and if you’re worried about carcinogens, ban tobacco, alcohol, many cosmetics, synthetic fragrances and food and drinks with added sugar.

I was relieved to receive a paper claiming that glyphosate use is a significant greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction tool.

The paper, released on [December 18, 2025], analyses the environmental effect of glyphosate when it comes to GHGs. Its headline claim is that the international use of glyphosate saves between 32.17 billion and 45.18 billion kg of GHGs and that is the equivalent of taking between 21.3 and 29.9 million cars off the road.

In addition the research claims that carbon storage with glyphosate constitutes 30.6% of the worldwide carbon storage that is associated with conservation tillage practices.

What I found interesting is that the glyphosate detractors ever ready to grasp at the cancer straw will totally ignore the environmental benefits the product provides.
