David Cox, genomics pioneer emblematic of Pfizer’s new era, dies unexpectedly

David Cox, a geneticist and senior vice president at Pfizer, has died unexpectedly, the company confirmed.  He was 66.

He led genetics research at the company’s Rinat office, charged with pioneering biotech innovations. Previously, he served as chief scientific officer of Perlegen, a pioneering personal genomics firm that is now defunct. Before that, he was involved in the effort to sequence the human genome.
