Video: The case for growing (and eating) sustainable GMO AquAdvantage salmon

fda stamp approved

Recently, a company called AquaBounty earned U.S. approval to begin selling their genetically engineered salmon in grocery stores. The salmon grows twice as fast as a non-GMO salmon, making its production much more sustainable. Producing the fish is so efficient, in fact, that AquaBounty can skip all the problems associated with farming salmon in the open ocean and do it on land in big tanks.

Long story short: AquaBounty’s AquAdvantage salmon is one of the most sustainable food animals on the entire planet! Now, as you may expect, any new GMO product is going to get push back from opponents. This salmon is no different. If we want to see a sustainable GMO salmon available in our grocery stores, we need to ask for it.
