EU urges member states to ban insecticide chlorpyrifos, citing potential threat to children’s health

The European Commission will put forward a proposal to EU countries not to renew the license for the pesticide chlorpyrifos …. a Commission spokesperson said [August 27].

The European Food Safety Authority [in August] concluded the chemical is harmful to human health and that no safe exposure level can be set …. EFSA’s research on the insecticide “identified concerns about possible genotoxic effects as well as neurological effects during development, supported by epidemiological data indicating effects in children.”
