In a recent speech on innovation in health and food policy, [European Union] Health and Food Safety Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis was crystal clear about where he stands on contentious topics like GMOs. โ€œI am always disappointed to see that a big part of European society distrusts modern technologies โ€” which is perhaps most clearly evident in the case of Genetically Modified Organisms,โ€ he said. โ€œPeople need to be properly informed about new developments and to be assured that authorization procedures are rigorous and transparent, and also that innovations promise a tangible benefit for them.โ€ He also said that opposition to innovation was understandable amongย Europeans, given that the continent is known for its โ€œlong-held traditions.โ€ Read his speech:ย http://bit.ly/25tEloe
