EU Health Commissioner disappointed in Europe’s anti-GMO sentiment

In a recent speech on innovation in health and food policy, [European Union] Health and Food Safety Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis was crystal clear about where he stands on contentious topics like GMOs. “I am always disappointed to see that a big part of European society distrusts modern technologies — which is perhaps most clearly evident in the case of Genetically Modified Organisms,” he said. “People need to be properly informed about new developments and to be assured that authorization procedures are rigorous and transparent, and also that innovations promise a tangible benefit for them.” He also said that opposition to innovation was understandable among Europeans, given that the continent is known for its “long-held traditions.” Read his speech: http://bit.ly/25tEloe
