Viewpoint: ‘Monsanto’ blues—Planned Netflix movie promises yet another round of anti-glyphosate disinformation

By now, many people have heard about a new propaganda movie … er, “drama film” … coming out about Monsanto, the agricultural entity that activists have loved to hate on for decades now. Monsanto, which will star Jonathan Bailey and Laura Dern, is an upcoming Netflix courtroom film that, according to the news release, is a “political and social courtroom drama about the global controversy surrounding the active ingredient glyphosate.”

Controversy indeed.

It’s pretty wild that it seems as though this controversy and bad PR nightmare for Monsanto just doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. …

Numerous other companies produce glyphosate (since it is now off patent) and numerous other companies produce thousands of other agrochemicals. Yet somehow they get a pass. Why is this?

Well, I would argue that we need to “follow the money.” Monsanto/Bayer has a lot of it, and law firms that get to profit off of lawsuits are funding the very negative campaigns. …
