DNA match leads to arrest in 1982 death case

The following is an edited excerpt. 

Stefanie Sue Watson disappeared almost 31 years ago on what was supposed to be her last night in the Washington area. The emergency room clerk with the long, curly hair walked outside her Laurel apartment, got into her Chevrolet Chevette and was never heard from again.

To relatives, friends and many others in the Laurel area, the case remained a haunting tale until late last week, when Torres got the call she thought would never come. The Prince George’s County police department’s cold-case squad and its crime lab had gotten a DNA match on a second person’s blood that had been saved from the crime scene.
